Hoops, Pizza and defeat.

Well it has taken me slightly longer than I would have liked to finish this particular post. Mainly because I have been busy working on a few other things… namely my obsession with hurting myself down the Gym. Which is going swimmingly by the way….!

Anyway, so back on track and talking about my NBA Live 08 experiences. I think I previously mentioned I ordered Pizza right? I mustn’t leave that part out, one thing I have learnt from the years playing PC games and attending PC LAN parties is that Pizza is vital to any night in gaming… or just any night in, in general. I am digressing again aren’t I?

So there I was with Pizza, goblet of red wine (seriously you should see the size of these glasses) and a fresh packet of tobacco all ready to go and then it struck me, although I thought playing a Basket Ball game would be good fun, I have no idea what the rules behind the game are. Pfft… should be fine.

Ok, maybe it isn’t fine. First game was somewhat a disaster. I managed a score of 45 which I thought was relatively good. My opponents (AI) score was 97. Oh yes Mr Roo yet again had his behind completely spanked. What let me down were the rules. I kept fouling the other team every time they came back for the attack. I don’t know how or why it was classed as a foul. They would come charging and I would go in to defend. They would get the ‘two pointer’ and then the whistle would go declaring a defending side foul so then they get a free throw. You can imagine, 4 quarters of 5 minutes each and I gave away a lot of free throws.

Did I mention I selected the ‘American All Stars’ who all had stats of 99 whilst I picked my opponents team whose stats were in the region of 60’ish? So yeah, an embarrassing defeat!

So on to game two, which I won’t dwell on as the result was pretty much the same, and the game after, and the game after that. In fact for the next 4 hours the result was Roo getting beat… but the score did slowly grow in my favour as I learnt the controls and ‘play sets’ a little better.

Since my disastrous weekend playing I have now started ‘Dynasty Mode’ which is basically career mode. You manage the entire team as well as playing the games. So you have to hire the Coach, Assistant Coach, Assistant, Scout etc. And ensure they are doing their jobs if not allocate them new ones. Plan the team’s diary (PR, Training, Days off etc, etc) and keep an eye out for new players who are soon to be ‘free agents’. It’s all very in-depth and I got VERY confused. Luckily for me, there is an auto mode! Yes! Now all I have to do is sit back and play the games….

…. Maybe I should have researched those rules like I meant too. You guessed it guys, I am still getting walked over. So once this little blog of mine is spell checked and posted I plan on reading up on the rules a little and doing some research. I am determined to win a game.

Thanks for reading.

Regards,

R.
