Hey guys,

I wanted to open this thread to discuss cooperative games (or the lack there of) on XboxLive Arcade and Indie channels. It seems that all the good COOP games are the Wii (or Nintendo systems). Maybe I am the one that is that is going crazy but games like Mario and Luigi and Super Smash and (throwing it back to Super Nintendo) Donkey Kong where tearing it up.

There may very well be a market for COOP games on the XboxLive other than Halo and Gears of War. I just find it difficult to believe that the portfolio of games on Arcade are leaving out a giant segment of gamers by not creating a local COOP game. I even heard recently from an industry expert that networked COOP games aren't being accepted on the Arcade channel anymore because of the conflict it creates with Gears of War and Halo.

This is just a COOP gamers rant but hey, needed to vent a little.

Yes I agree we need more games for co op, they do seem very far and few between.

Couldn't agree more!!!

There are a few gems on there though, such as:

Final Fight, Castle Crashers, Streets of Rage, Splosion Man, N+, R-Type, Bionic Commando, Bubble Bobble, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles etc.

I truly believe co-op is the forgotten art, too many games unfairly dismiss co-op as a side option or even punish you for playing in co-op by removing achievements for the 2nd (or both) player(s). I believe co-op is the future, and the past... all my best memories involve co-op gaming...

Gauntlet - Amstrad CPC464 & C64
Double Dragon 3 - NES
Bubble Bobbles - NES
Even taking turns to progress through Super Mario 3 - NES
Secret of Mana - SNES
Turtles in Time - SNES
Super Contra (Probotector) - SNES
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 - PS2 & Xbox
most sports games... PES, Fifa, Madden, NHL
and then more recently Halo, Gears, Marvel, Lego games & the music games.

Yeah, I love co-op & think all games should try to find a way to add co-op gameplay in. Its great to just be able to play online with a friend doing objectives together or getting a mate round & playing together in splitscreen.

I've hardly bought any games off the Live arcade but I know that if there were some cool little co-op games i'd buy plenty more :).

I agree with you guys, the olden days had it right with co-op, whats happened?

Personally, I think there should be co-op play on both Arcade/Indie and more on the front of larger titles but not just for the online side.

I own a fair selection of retail games which have fantastic online play and single player, but nothing if you have a group of friends round your house. Most games barely support split screen on all modes these days, and even when they allow system link if it doesnt have split screen, its one person a TV. I have the means to have possibled 3-4 TV's on the go but even thats a bit too much hassle just for an evenings gaming with some friends. When all developers have to do is make sure thier online side of things, could also work for a group of mates from 4-8 people at home.

This, might not be as related as I orginally thought, but still! Raaaaant!

I agree - couch co-op is the overlooked twin to online, but I fear that the ability to sell extra copies when playing online Vs sharing the split screen is also part of the reason why it's often ignored.

If anyone has any awesome recommendations for Miss Sniper and I then please speak up... I think we've exhausted the Lego phenomenon for a few months :)

Hey guys - first post so bear with me here. I believe Dysnomia is 2 player co-op and it's got some of the highest production value I've seen on that platform. (Indie Channel)

I totally agree with that. I love co-op, especially split screen because that way I get to play it with my brothers. It's pretty sad but selling 2 copies it's far best that selling 1 copy... lame.
