While searching the dark depths of the internet, I found this.

Mothers against Video Game Addiction and Violence!

I suspect it's nothing more than a bunch of over-protective parents. But some of the stuff on their site makes you want to :hysterical:!

I quote their contact page:

Quote

Video game addiction is without a doubt, becoming this century's most increasingly worrisome epidemic, comparable even to drug and alcohol abuse. All the while, the video game industry continues to market and promote hatred, racism, sexism, and the most disturbing trend: clans and guilds, an underground video game phenomenon which closely resembles gangs. Parents NEED to be aware of the hidden dangers.

It's funny how they compare playing a game with being addicted to crack and beer! And comparing Clans to Gangs! :hysterical:

Or, we could ban video games all together and let kids run round killing real people, or crash a bike in real life as many times as I do on motogp and kill myself :hehe:

I know I would rather say my son is up-stairs blasting some zombies away than say he’s out on the streets SOMEWHERE doing DRUGS with his mates. People that talk crap like the above need to get out more, you get politicians spreading all this crap, but it’s ok for the likes of Bush and Blair to send 20,000 troops out to Iraq for a real game of call of duty eh? :dntknw:

Our Ste has played video games since the age of 4, he's a well adjusted, likeable 17yr old now...plays more guitar these days.

I think the problem lies with the parents & their values, I don't think video games enter the equation

Exactly the point. Every kid who plays a video game is minus 1 kid off the streets! It's absolutely rediculous saying violence in video games encourages kids to pop their mates full of lead.

I should know, i've been playing for just over 10 years!

Video games are my anti-drug.

If it was not for video games I would be nothing but another junky on the streets.

I think all these mom's out there trying to protect their kids from so called, "violence" are really stupid. i play video games and i'm 17. later as a father i'd rather have my son play games than go do something stupid on the streets. I'll rub it in these mother's faces over and over again, and let any boy play this over and over and over, as long as he wants to. Learn the difference from real violence and "naughty word alert" thats for real. quit coming up with your bull"naughty word alert". videogames don't cause violence, its the way you are with your children at home.

have these people not just figured out that they can tell they're children not to play these games, and that there are age ratings on games for a reason

Yep. And P.S. There ain't no respawning in real life. But it's completely fine to stand on top of your defeated foes and T-bag them in real life.
And is there a way to thumbs up a comment or something like that?

Will this thread ever die? Every year or so someone comes along and resurrects it  Yep, it's an amusing site to look at. Of all the rhetoric on there and the comments denouncing the article's poster as a nutcase, the following remains my all time favourite:-

Quote

It is highly recommend that a teens bedroom be absent of all forms of electronic devices: personal computers, printers, video game console systems, television sets, cellular telephones, clock-radios, battery recharger’s, and calculators.

So you're assuming the parents are allowed to just hoard all the electronic stuff in their rooms? They don't even know how to use it. I should know, I had to help dad with connecting our dial up internet and mum needs to be reminded not to call other people when I'm on the internet.
