As I have said before (in previous threads), I'd like to know what all of you folks think about this; looking at the past trys, do games REALLY go hand and hand, or "can there only be one highlander?"

So he personally took those pictures on the film sets then ....... I think you know what I`m getting at here , just need to cover ourselves against any Law flavoured suits .

I personally think that any games that just copy the film tend to be a bit lacklustre in most areas . I really like the Idea of a game that prequels a film or fills in blanks . The Chronicles of Riddick was a good example of this on the XBox . Other than that , there has Rarely been a good game of a film .

Im with Badger on this. Rarely does a film translate into a good game and its even more rare for a game to translate into a good film. Gears of War on the other had was taken from a novel series i belive, so its possible that a film could be made. Only problem is that, as with the game, alot of the important history that comes before is lost.

The only way i see games and movies going hand in hand is the advancement of Graphics Technology. Games push the graphics and comping industry forward. If it wasnt for us gamers and our unrelenting thurst for better Graphics, and faster CPU's the industry wouldent be anywhere near where it is now. This related directly to Holliwood films because most all of the rendering techniques used in films are present in the latest hardware and games, allbeit to a lesser extent. So i think we all deserve a good pat on the back for never being happy with the latest hardware for more than 5 minutes.

VIVA LA FUSSINESS!

Great work on the article Alex. Im going to enjoy debating this one as im sure everyone will have a small difference of opinion :D

i am a nerd then. i know that is final fantasy. but im not a nerd really. but i do know.

anyways i think its a ok thing to do. i think if you make a film from a game that is a great game the game should be the best there is. like a film on gow wud be so class. i would enjoy that so much.

The main problem with films of games , is that , only gamers are mildly interested in seeing them . You mention "Halo" to any person in the street and if that person isn`t a gamer their eyes will glaze over the second you say it`s based on a game . Mention a certain bespectacled young WiZZard and everyone starts to show interest . The Potter films are the kind of film everybody would go and see , hell , even I`ve sat in a cinema and watched them and I`m the kind of guy that only goes to cinemas for Star Wars films ....... I`d even buy rubber dog poo if it had the Star Wars logo on it :hehe: . The plain fact of the matter is that the studios cashed in , with people directing the film that didn`t UNDERSTAND the game or it`s universe or even folklore . They need to dig around in the pre-history of the game and offer us more than we already know .

I can`t comment on Doom as I saw it in the states on a TiVo system and it hadn`t recorded all of the film , but what I did see wasn`t too bad ...... If the studios will grant Jackson his wishes then I can`t see the Halo film being a Dud . He`s just the kind of director that can turn the tide of opinion on this kind of thing .

That's probably the best thought on this subject posted so far  If the screen writers worked with the developers on creating a uniform storey, then there would, for sure, be a solid and interesting game AND movie combination. The problem with Mortal Kombat Anhiliation (however that's spelled), was the acting and cheesey lines. Also, all the other actors escept for two quit... and Raiden just wasn't the same :doze: Once again, Badger you're soooo right when you say that "studios cashed in , with people directing the film that didn`t UNDERSTAND the game or it`s universe or even folklore." There HAS to be some way for people (and by people I mean directors) to understand that these movies can't be high CG based movies that will churn out money just because of the name. But yeah, oh well, maybe it'll get better later on... I hope...
