As there's been some posts made enquiring about a league for the new SBK08 I thought i'd get it off the ground.

Now there's alot of options in SBK but the main one for the league is deciding on what handling mode to run with, the modes are:

• Basic
  
• Arcade
  
• Advanced
  
• Sim
  
• Extreme

I've decided to go with organising a league more on the arcade end of the scale (if a Simulation league is required then it'll have to be a seperate league i'm afraid organised by another member of league staff)

There's 2 modes we could go for on arcade:

Basic or Arcade.

For those that haven't tried Basic or Arcade here's the differences:

On Basic, Traction control is set to the Max & breaking is at 250%, this means you can hammer it around the track on the brakes at the last minute & straight back on to full throttle without worrying about falling off on the brakes or highsiding out of the corner making it near impossible to fall off or make an error (other than running wide ect..)

On Arcade, Traction control is set to Medium & braking is at 200%, this means your brakes aren't as powerful, although there is very little difference. The main difference on Arcade is how you apply the throttle, you have to be more cautious on the exit of corners feathering the throttle until you can get the bike straightened up to get on full throttle. This allows for some good rear sliding & some hisiding if you get it wrong, which I would have thought would create the better racing knowing everyone can make mistakes.

I'll let the poll decide what everyone thinks is best (also reply to this to say which mode you prefer or what you think would create a better league/racing)

In SBK you also can only run Lobbies with either

• Everyone riding Manual
  
• Everyone riding Automatic

As I think its unfair forcing people to run manual then the league will be run on Auto transmission.

With those options out the way, its now time to decide on a race format:

I've had some ideas with what we can do & these are:

• Option 1; Individually Scored - Real Laps - 1 race/track per week (League would run for 12 weeks)
  
  
• Option 2; Individually Scored - Short Races 15-20% - 2 race weekends per week (4 races in total, League would run for 6 weeks)
  
  
• Option 3; 2 Man Team racing with scoring for individuals in the team & scoring for the team aswell - Real Laps - 1 race per week (League would run for 12 weeks)
  
  
• Option 4; 2 Man Team racing with scoring for individuals in the team & scoring for the team aswell - Short races - 2 race weekends per week (4 races in total, League would run for 6 weeks)
  
  
• Option 5; 2 Man Team racing with scoring for individuals in the team & scoring for the team aswell - Real Laps - 2 races on the same track per week (League would run for 12 weeks)
  
  
• Option 6; 2 Man Team racing with scoring for individuals in the team & scoring for the team aswell - Short Races 15-20% - 2 races on the same track per week (League would run for 12 weeks)

I myself would like to do individual/team racing, real or short, that way if someones running off in the drivers points table your team could still win the constructors table.

Please post with thoughts, comments or any ideas you have which can produce a good fun league, ideas very much welcome

I've looked into qualifying aswell but there aren't any options online to be able to do it & unfortunately the grid positions are sorted in to the order everyone joins the lobby, therefore the host always has pole position. So the host will just send out the game invites randomly, is that the best thing to do? any ideas?

I think thats everything to do with racing covered.

Now to decide what day/time to do the racing each week

Please see the poll, also state whether times that are in the poll are taken by another league you are currently already doing but would like to be apart of this league aswell. Sundays are unavailable due to MotoGP real laps at 8pm GMT & i imagine there are some that would like to do both leagues.


p.s. I know there are lobby issues online, but these seem to be just at the end of the race where you don't get the option to proceed, if that happens the host can just reset the lobby back up & send out the invites again.

I have voted as you requested but ignore my monday vote as the 8pm time means i will hardly ever be able to attend.

One suggestion i would like to make is that of different weather. The game has some really good weather effects in it and i would have like to have seen something a lil like this:

week 1
race 1 sunny
race 2 cloudy

week 2
race 1 sunny
race 2 wet

week 3
race 1 sunny
race 2 rainy

week 4
race 1 sunny
race 2 cloudy

etc

That way there are still alot of dry races but the weather effects are used also.

Now as you can see i voted for a 2 race option with teams of two but also singular scoring but as i said means little as i'll hardly be around at 8pm

Great ideas with the weather Tritan sounds good to me. Also, are you away most nights form 8pm or do you only work certain nights?

Theres a few reasons why but it all means that "usually" im not around untill 10:30ish at night, but i dont expect a league to be run that late as it wont be convenient for the majority so not to worry.

I will sign up and i am interested, just dont expect me to show often, so maybe a wild card entry so i dont pull anyones team down?

Yeah its a shame, if the chosen format is teams then yeah a wild card is probably the way to go, filling in for others but if its a different format then you might be able to always race when you are free, see what happens with the poll

This would follow a season in the proper fashion as you would have a Race 1 and a Race 2 ... The only difference is on Option 6 , you will be doing about half the laps

The Idea I came up with earlier for Qualifying was : Open a room , Get everyone in , Set it for 2 laps on the Specific track ... Collisions off , You have a Warm up lap and a "Superpole" Lap ...

Re-Open the lobby and the order of the Superpole results is the order people are invited into the room ...

How long will the polls be open, as I'm still deciding what format and whether to enter. I don't think a team event would be anygood for me unless my team don't mind finishing last, I don't because I'm used to it but my teammate might not be pleased lol.

Jim; I'll probably leave the polls open until atleast the weekend if not longer, depends how many sign up & as for teams, if you are slower you can be paired with someone faster, if we did teams we'd try to get balanced teams of 2 so they were as fair as can be

The Team Idea is more so that if someone does run away with the individual League scoring , at least everyone still has something to fight for

The qualifying idea is good, only thing is you get Host advantage, but then I guess that could be the advantage of being a host, you'll always be first on the grid.

Can you definitely set all races to 2 laps?

Also theres been a couple of votes for tuesday & wednesday, at the moment the majority is going for monday, is there a reason those who chose other days cannot do monday?

When do you think you will have the league up and running? I voted for Wednesday because mondays are always busy for me. But not a problem if it is monday, just keep me updated.
I will be online later at 5:30 ish if you fancy a race. Got a few mates who might join the league too.

The league will probably start the week of the 18th August, i'll leave this thread up until the beginning of next week, then i'll sort out the scoring/lobbies/teams(if we do teams) during next week & hopefully get it kicked off the following week.

I'll be on for some racing this evening & nice, if your mates would like to join the league remember to let them know they need to register on the forum & click to join the league.

Forza is on mondays? well in that case its probably best if the monday option is taken off, shouldn't have the league clashing with another racing league. Is Tuesday or Wednesday still just as suitable for everyone?
