Build Gotham City back up to standard!

Developed by: Warner Brothers
Published by: Tt Games
Genre: Action/Adventure
Features: 720p/1080i/1080p

Batman! Batman is here, ladies and gentlemen! Him and his pixellated friends – and enemies – are back in the latest colourful Lego creation for the Xbox 360! Can Lego Batman save the day again? Or will he fall apart under the pressure?

Lego Batman is the latest creation by the Lego games franchise. It was created to show off all of the original Batman heroes and villains, such as The Joker, Catwoman, The Riddler and so many more! Not forgetting Batman and his trusty - yet a little goofy - sidekick Robin!

The game has a lot of different features interweaved with the gameplay. For instance, once you’ve mastered the simple controls, you can perform different types of attacks. Also, adding to this, you can wear different suits that you aquire for Batman and Robin from various ‘Suit Swappers’.

Also, there are two sides to every story, including this one! If you feel your mischevious side making a break for it, why not switch to the side of the villains, taking control of the dangerous criminals in the Arkham Asylum! As soon as you’ve completed a mission for the heroes, you have the option of changing to the villains and completing the story from their point of view! Each villain, like each hero, has different abilities and weaknesses, making their stories very fun to play through. The co-op mode is also good fun, although there is the usual issue of the fact that the screen doesn’t stretch over huge amounts of space, so you often find yourself fighting for screen time with a partner.

The music for the game fits brilliantly. Taken from the original ‘60s Batman, the soundtrack is fantastically composed for the game, fitting each level to a T. For instance, on a carnival level I played through, I couldn’t help but recognise the warped fairground music!

The graphics are pretty impressive for the type of game. With colourful lego objects to build and destroy and even drive, the other graphics also stand out well. Anything that is not made of lego is properly pixellated and looks fantastic when compared to past Lego games in the series!

There are many collectables to go back and gather, either while playing through, or if you go back to fetch the last few. Ranging from things such as ‘Save the citizens’ to power brick collection that unlock new additions to everything! Achievements are there to be harvested and the game is generally a great fun thing! One of it’s only faults would be that there is a distinct lack of any online play, which could have improved the game by miles.

With a few changes, such as the aforementioned online play, the game could easily hit 8, but with a few bugs that need fixing, and a few distinct mistakes, the game is, although very enjoyable, sometimes frustrating and anger-inducing.

Rating: 7.5
