Left 4 Dead focuses very much on team play and involves you in a movie. Each person stars as a character. The object is to get all of your team mates through each chapter safely. It is played in a first person view and is very clear where your opponents are as they are highlighted with a blue glow, which you can see through walls.
You play through the levels fighting off infected humans and these come at you fast and in packs. If you get knocked down a team mate can revive you. You can see at a glance how much health each player has a s they are either green, amber or red The best way to play this is to stay together, so you can revive each other.
You can pick up weapons and aid from tables in rooms and we started our game with a table full of weapons, aid and ammunition. Once everyone had stocked up off we went. The zombies came at us very fast, the game is intense, if one of your team members gets knocked to the ground they can still shoot, but unable to get up again until another team member comes to revive them. If you haven't been revived in time you are in spectator mode and can scroll through the other team mates.
We had one level where we had to open a door and you knew there would be a ton of zombies coming through that door, being on your own is suicide there is no way you can fight the hordes by yourself as they will surround you, knock you to the floor and chew your head off.
We played as survivors, but you can also play as Zombies, four types of "Boss Infected" each with their own unique ability such as a 50-foot tongue lasso or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas.
The gameplay also takes place across four massive campaigns and there is no set difficulty level, the AI Director monitors your actions and creates a unique experience for you.
Left 4 Dead is looking to be great fun, especially if you enjoy team games.
