I have been paying for my Xbox live via Debit card. not so long ago i noticed that the "Auto-renewal" thingy was on. now being honest i dont remember turning it on myself (But that's another matter).
Anyway for Christmas my other half is buying me a 12 month card/voucher so i decided to turn off the auto renewal & remove my card details from my acount (I used to work in a company that deals with Fraud so am hyper protective of my personal details).
On the Xbox live site, there is no option to either turn the auto renewal off & remove my bank acount details.
I called their helpline & was told if they cannot remove my bank details yet because they would have to automatically demote my account to silver (Even though i've paid for the month upfront) And also i would have to be put through to the Acounts dept to Remove the auto renewal.
left on hold for 10 mins before giving up......what the heck ?
You guys know i'm new to Xbox.....is this how Xbox live is run ? or am i expecting too much ?
All i want to do is take my bank acount details off by request & remove the auto renewal .....it's not rocket science .....but i'm tempted to just ask them to remove the lot & do without till xmas.

I think if you ring up and just ask to turn off auto renewal they will do it, then you should be able to remove your card details on the site or with the person on the phone but just ask to remove auto renewal first.
they should ask whether you want to go to silver or use the current balance then go to silver when it runs out.

Just called them & got them to remove the auto renewal & was told if they remove my card details off it will automatically reduce my Gold account to silver ?!?.
I once i get my voucher i'll just remove it then.
just seems a daft way of doing it.

It doesn't make sense to reduce your account to Silver the moment you remove your cc details; you have, after all, paid for the service in advance. Their is no clause in the terms (that I can find) requiring you to maintain a valid payment method at all times. Anyhow, the most pertinent section I could see:-
Your Service may be cancelled at the end of your subscription term if you do not have a billing account or have not elected to auto-renew your subscription with a charge to your payment method, or you have not entered a prepaid card for purposes of renewing your Service.

That makes sense, as you say i've paid for the service upfront & just want my details removed.
The helpful people on the service line (there is a great need for a sarcasm font) just say's it's how their system works.
suffice to say i will be in touch with them again asking for my details to be removed at a later date.

customer service my old card details were removed and to replace it I gave
my *LINK REMOVED* I had no problems whatsoever after this.
It was a great alternative and more convenient to set a budget.
