The Undergarden is one of the latest titles to hit the xbox live arcade, I have never seen a game quite like this, it's not hardcore and it's rather addictive and compelling to play, a game with nothing to it and this is what makes it great, it's just pure playing!

The game is based in the zen-like caverns of the deep sea, where pollen can be found and plants can be grown, overall this game is a rather simple game, musicians play tunes and you escort them out, that being your main aim. You must also master your character's limited abilities to adventure your way into the unknown throughout fourteeen unique levels, full of unlockable treasures and secrets.

With no actual story or objective there isn't much to get in the way of this game's fun factor, a rather unclear objective is to search for the musicians in each level and bring them together and take them to the surface, growing underwater flowers and plants to liven up the surrounding area.

While traversing the deep sea caves you will run into physics based puzzles which mainly use special plants that drop fruits, these are maybe a small hike away from the actual puzzle be it pressure switches or moving cogs to open doors to other areas. Further into the game these puzzle elements become more sophisticated as the game is cleverly designed to raise the difficulty in a subtle way each level, adding a new mechanic is the most common way of doing this for example further into the game a smog begins to fill the levels making it harder to see which obstacles lie ahead of you. There is occasionally lethal elements added like volcanoes that take all your pollen away and make you drop what you are carrying, meaning your musicians could drop down a deep cavern.

You always have the option of bringing a buddy to the deep sea caverns with you if you wish, with drop-in, drop-out co-operative play, so that you and up to three buddies can carry musicians, grow flowers and float around in the liquid, visual zen on screen, making the pacing of the game a little quicker, you glide through each puzzle with more minds then one allowing you to explore more! The only downside to the co-op is that it has a fixed camera focus on player 1, if any other players go out of this boundary they are re spawned right next to player 1 and anything they are carrying is dropped.

The Undergarden has a full leader board on each level, as well as co-op leaderbards, allowing you to see who in you friends list has gained the most points in any of the cavernous levels, as well as their buddies!

There is a certain feeling of calm when you play this game, which strangely compels you to play more, you lose track of time when playing. This game concentrates on music greatly, picking up musicians adds a new layer with each one until your going through levels with a whole band playing an ambient song in the foreground, forcing you to lay back and relax.

Overall The Undergarden is a calm and relaxed game, something to play when you need to relieve some stress. It's also addictive in a way, making sure no matter how many times you put it down you will be intrigued to play it once more. yet simple enough for a young child to play, making this game suitable for everyone and anyone. With a very reasonable price this game Is another one you must try out!
