Halo has officially said good-bye to Bungie with the release of the Defiant Map Pack for Halo: Reach.

Being 343 Industries' first release for the Halo franchise, aside from Waypoint, they have got the task of making a good impression among Halo player.

The Defiant Map Pack consists of two new Competitive Multiplayer maps and one Firefight map.

Condemned is the first of the three maps, this multiplayer map is set inside a space station, windows look out towards a space fight going on above Reach's burning surface.

This is a small map with tight twists and turns making for some rapid, trigger happy action. With the claustrophobic feel all around the map what could be considered a small fight on other maps feels like a full blown war against the enemy at times. The maze of small hallways leads you to a number of larger, more open areas most of which have more then one floor to them. At the center of the map is the Low Gravity generator area, while not an epicenter for battles, this is one of the quickest routes for getting to each side of the map.



The other Multiplayer map is Highlands, set on Reach itself in the sky above you are three Covenant warships bombarding the planet with their ordinance. A juxtaposition to the area you stand in, in itself yet another Juxtaposition this peaceful looking map with its running river complete with Koi Carp (That if you so chose to you may kill), is in fact a training ground for Spartans such as yourself.

This is the largest of all three maps and also the most pleasing to the eye, but makes for a good battle ground as its open terrain allows for no cover to be taken, the strongest will win. A few buildings lay on the outer edges of this map but they themselves are nothing special.

Unearthed is the smallest map and also the only Firefight map, set in an abandoned military base with vehicles around, this map is less tactical and more spray and pray than most of the firefight maps.

Overall 343 seem to be getting to grips with Halo's map formula while this the maps may not be considered the best out of the bunch, personally. They do give you some Easter eggs to find and of course fresh maps to learn tactics and keep you playing, I had fun on all of them with no complaints. The price is a little steep if your looking for a addition to just the competitive multiplayer.
