Being a Mass Effect fan I was delighted to have a chance to see a demonstration of Mass Effect 3 last Friday, having completed Mass Effect 2 I was intrigued to know how the story and gameplay would follow on, after-all Commander Shepard certainly went through a lot in the previous one when the Normady was attacked and he/she was killed. Thankfully Cerberus brought him/her back to life otherwise Mass Effect 3 would be very strange without him/her.

Those of you who have played Mass Effect 2’s DLC Arrival would know the events which Commander Sheppard went through and Mass Effect 3 begins where we see Commander Sheppard on trial for these. During this trial the Reapers attack Earth and are now in the process of destroying the galaxy, through a selection of choices Sheppard must try and defeat the Reapers. Mass Effect 3 is the final chapter in the trilogy and follows on from the DLC, however if you have never played Mass Effect this is the start of the Galactic war and a good entry point.



Two million dead in the 1st day another 7 million by the end of the first week, Earth is in rubble and reinforcers are re-grouping elsewhere the trailer we saw begun and set the scene for same major destruction. It’s up to Shepard to bring help or there won’t be an Earth left to save! As Commander Sheppard you will be placed in a vital mission to gather allies and start the Reaper attack in Soldier, Engineer or Combat class. Commander Shepard, The Normady and many of the characters you recognise will return.

Mass Effect 3 will be about choices; with a vast galaxy you can stay on the track or drift off and explore un-explored planets. It’s all about victory through sacrifice on a personal level, introduced to the galaxy, friends, relationships put at risk. In Mass Effect 3 you are endanger ring your entire crew and yourself. The entire civilizations are at risk. The choices you make will concur a different ending and consequences.

Reapers this time will be bigger and badder, new to the Reapers is a Ground Walking Reaper on Earth harvesting all of Human kind, an Atlus, which once you have killed the driver you can take over and drive. There are enemies with hand cannons, these are gruesome and ugly.

The new enemies will come up close, work together, gang up and not stop. Veteran difficulty level is now the new Normal. The new Geth’s armour is indestructible, looking similar to Mass Effect 1 and 2 however they have been improved and are a new species.



In a war this scale you are going to need some awesome weapons and in Mass Effect 3 it’s about choosing, customising and upgrading them as you level up. The Omni Blade, a variant of the Omni Tool changes to which ever class you have, if you are an Infiltrator it is on fire, a Soldier it is plain, Engineer an electrified Omni Blade.

In the combat trailer we were shown Shepard must rescue a princess, the last fertile female Krogan, the enemies are from the Cerberus race. The trailer shows how the combat has changed from Mass Effect 2 and is mighty impressive; it also shows how Shepard and his crew work together as a team.

Mass Effect 3 still has Role Playing Aspects, a deep story line and tactical elements, but this is all about choices, if you want to play it as an action game you can, dive into the story you can, or play it as Mass Effect 1 and 2. It’s up to you.

Mass Effect 3 will hopefully be on no more than two discs, maximising space with amazing looking videos and textures.

Kinect will add voice activated team controls, you can tell your squad what you want them to do and control things with your voice; it will make you have a verbal connection with the character. You will have a command list you can pull up and use.

Multiplayer has just been announced, there will be a four player co-op, For the first time, players will be able to play as non-humans. Krogans, Turians, Asari, and others will be playable, each having their own abilities.

As you would expect Mass Effect 3 is looking stunning and they are now at the stage where they can play through the whole game.

Mass Effect 3 will be released March 2012.
