Zune on Xbox LIVE brings you the latest movies and gives you access to unlimited music and music video streaming in SD or HD, you can even use Kinect to find and play music and videos and to control playback. We are taking a look at the newly released movies available from your Xbox 360 and Zune, this time it is Chronicle.
Chronicle sees three friends, Andrew, Matt- Andrew’s Cousin and Steve discover super powers after they stumble across a hole in the ground and decide to investigate it. In the hole is a crystalline object which provides them with out-of-this-world powers which soon develops into more than what they first expect. The three friends, from different backgrounds experiment with these powers, at first using them for their own amusement, but things go a bit far as a troubled Andrew, whose mother is ill and needs medicine, Father who is an out of work alcoholic bully and himself being bullied at school uses these powers to try and create a better home life and to provide his Mother with the medicine she needs. Things soon become out of hand and the pact the three friends have made to keep the powers private soon become a very public affair.
A lot of the movie is shown through Andrew’s video camera as he captures what is going on on film. However as Andrew’s powers develop and become stronger he is able to suspend the camera in the air. This is particularly useful as there are a few scenes where they can fly, these would not have the same effect if the camera was being held.
There are also a few gruesome scenes, such as when Andrew removes several teeth from a bully’s mouth and after Andrew has been hospitalized due to an explosion and then decides to fly with his injuries. Also as the friends exert their powers this causes them to have nose bleeds.
Perhaps the best part of this movie is when cars, busses and objects are hurtling through the sky and there are funny parts to the movie, such as when they decide to move a car from a parking spot to another parking spot watching in amusement when the lady returns from shopping to find her car has moved. Other funny parts involve a child in a toy shop being scared by a teddy bear which seems to have come alive and a lady in a supermarket when her trolley seemingly seems to have a mind of its own.
Chronicle is an enjoyable, original movie which has been made to feel as if you are looking through a video camera so the video quality is not always up to HD standard. However this does fit the movie. The ending is a bit overkill, but who hasn’t dreamt of being able to fly or to have some kind of super power?
Chronicle is available now on Zune to buy in HD for 2120 Microsoft Points, SD for 1770 Microsoft Points or to stream in SD for 480 Microsoft Points or HD for 590 Microsoft Points. Zune movies give you fourteen days to watch or forty Eight hours from starting to watch.
